Physical Features

Size-
  • Malaysia has the land area of 329, 847 square kilometers, and is the 67th largest country by land area.
Mountains-
  • Mt. Kinabalu (with an elevation of 13,435 feet, or 4,095 meters) is the highest mountain in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The mountain is located on the island of Borneo; more specifically in the Malaysian state of Sabah, and is protected a world heritage site, (Kinabalu National Park).
Coastline-
  • The beaches found on the Malaysian coastline are among the best in the world; with complex coral reefs, and one of the richest ecosystems. 
Rivers-
  • Rajang River is a river found in Sarawak, Malaysia. The river flows 563 kilometers into Kapit, and then to the South China Sea. It is the longest river in Malaysia.
Forests-

  • It is believed that Malaysia is 2/3 forest, and some forests are over 130 million years old making them one of the oldest forests in the world. The forests are supported by the hot wet climate.

  • Islands
  • Mangroves (type of shrub-like trees)
  • Peat Swamps (accumulation of decayed vegetation)
  • Coastal wetlands (important for migrant birds)
